Convergence & Cat Collaborating at TRAM 2011

Posted : October 13 2010

Convergence Training and Caterpillar Inc. have joined forces at MSHA’s 2011 TRAM event to strengthen ties with the mining community and raise awareness of the value that the two companies bring to the industry. The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) hosts the annual Training Resources Applied to Mining (TRAM) event at the National Mine Academy as a venue for sharing the latest safety information and training tools specific to the mining industry.

It was at the 2008 TRAM event that Convergence Training first introduced our groundbreaking Surface Miner Training compliance software, winning First Place for computer-based training products. Since that time, our Surface Miner Training DVDs and software have helped train thousands of miners and mining contractors while virtually eliminating citations related to documentation for our customers.

And now, through our strategic alliance with CAT Safety Services, Convergence Training continues to deliver on our goals of reducing human and monetary costs for our clients by providing superior quality training courses and compliance software.

Visit the MSHA website for more on MSHA Events.

Convergence Training's NEW Website - The Corporate Jargon Killer

Posted : May 07 2010

Over the past few years, we’ve gotten lots of compliments on our website. But as much as we like compliments, we’re driven by our own standards of quality and design. So check out our brand-spanking-new website ConvergenceTraining.com for a look at who we are, what we do, and where we’re taking the industry.

We deliberately skipped traditional corporate web design, and took a revolutionary approach to our new site. We actually tell you what we do… and it may sound crazy, but we also show you some samples of our work. So be warned, if it makes you uncomfortable to have a company speak to you in direct terms, with relevant images, this site is not for you.

You won’t find businessy jargon like, “empowers companies to maximize their potential and facilitate ROI, blah, blah…” Convergence sells Training Courses, Training Management Software, and Custom Course Development Services at competitive prices to companies that value quality. Need to know more? Dig a little deeper into the site or just give us a call.

Yes, our phone lines have actual people on this end. We’re not using our site as a shield to protect us from those scary customers. Our phone number’s right at the top of every page.

Convergence Training Adapts to New 2010 MSHA Rules on Miner Exposure to Coal Dust

Posted : May 07 2010

MSHA has a new rule, published in October of this year, called “Lowering Miner’s Exposure to Respirable Coal Mine Dust Including Continuous Personal Dust Monitors”. Some major parts of the rule include: lowering the existing concentration limits of breathable coal dust, requiring the use of a personal dust monitor, addressing extended work shifts, and expanding medical surveillance of workers. A very good synopsis of the rule can be seen here.

Convergence Training will be updating our MSHA safety training videos after the respirable coal dust public hearings are finished. That way we’ll be sure to understand all of the implications of the new rules for our mining customers. If you’re currently a Convergence Training customer (or if you might be one day), follow us on Twitter to stay up-to-date on our MSHA- and OSHA-aligned product releases and news.

Thomas Jones MSHA

MSHA enlists NFL star as spokesman for "Stay Out-Stay Alive" campaign.

Posted : May 07 2010

Kansas City Chiefs' running back Thomas Jones has been tabbed as the new spokesperson for MSHA's "Stay Out-Stay Alive" campaign. Jones, whose mother and father were both coal miners, speaks out in the new campaign, warning of the dangers of abandoned mines and quarries.

"Dozens of people die in old mines and abandoned quarries every year," Jones says in a new spot. "Underground mines have shafts as deep as skyskrapers and they can collapse at the slightest disturbance. Old surface mines have cliffs and steep ledges that are constantly changing. Take the advice of this coal miner's son. STAY OUT, STAY ALIVE."

Great to see an influential athlete lending his name to such an important campaign. Kudos to MSHA & Thomas Jones.
